NJ Temp Disability for Pregnancy?
I am pregnant and I want to know if there is temporary disability benefits available in New Jersey?
I am a government employee and we don't have maternity leave! The New Jersey website does not give me any helpful info and I can't seem to find a contact for them.
If any one who has been in this situation or knows any resourceful information would be appreciated. I can't imagine being out for 6 weeks with NO PAYCHECK!!!!
Does your job provide short term disability insurance? That is what you would need to receive payment while on leave from your job for disability. Generally you will get paid at 60% of your normal rate, and generally that only kicks in after you have been of for two weeks, either unpaid, or using any accrued personal leave time. The federal government has a law in place that allows you to take up to 12 weeks off, but your employer is not required to pay you during that time. Is there an HR Dept. at your place of employment you can check with? If you do not know if you have disability insurance, they would be able to give you all the details.
