Orange forgives taxes on green cars
ORANGE,CT – Orange forgives taxes on green cars an article reported in the New Haven Register on February 16,2008 stated that Orange will become the first town in Connecticut to offer a full tax abatement for vehicle that get at least 40 miles to the gallon. — Say hello Prius and goodbye Hummer.
Under this ordinance, any passenger car with an EPA of 40mpg that was purchased after January 2008 is eligible. Applications for the exemption are available at the tax assessor’s office and must be filed yearly.
First Selectman James Zeoli was given the idea by Alan Klotz, an Orange resident. Zeoli is hoping that the town’s Clean Energy Committee will come up with even more clean energy options for the town. Since 2005, New Haven has been offering a “green pass” decal to owners of hybrids allowing them to park for free at metered spots in town .You can obtain more information at the New Haven, CT town website http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/. New Haven has also been actively converting its town fleet of cars to hybrids and retrofitting school buses with diesel emissions- reducing technology. When Milford, CT Ann Berman – Milford’s Environmental Concerns Coalition Chairwoman was asked what she thought-she said it’s a “great idea” however she thought it would be great if the federal government (don’t hold your breath) would pass a similar law so the burden to fund this abatement would not fall on the individual towns.
