A Team Building Guide
It can be really difficult when you are tasked with arranging the team building away day for your team, department or company. There is a certain amount of pressure upon anyone, or persons, who are organising the away days. They will want everyone in attendance to enjoy themselves and for the chosen team option to deliver the key outcomes which will have been outlined by the management team.
For the first timers arranging team activities, to ensure that their chosen event goes off without a hitch, this means they could probably use a little bit of help. So this is a guide to help those event organiser novices arrange an absolutely fabulous team building away day for their colleagues at work.
One of the most important things that needs to be understood before even looking at the different options available for the team building, is the group that it is for. So you need to know the likely group size - and minimum and maximum numbers of people attending if applicable. It is also important to know who it is actually for, so things like which team, or teams, is it for. The group's age range, how they normally work together, who are the most senior and least senior people who will be present is also valuable information to have to hand. Understanding the group is key to being able to select the most suitable options for them.
Once you understand who the team building activity is for, it is important to understand what it is the powers that be, i.e. the management team, want the group to achieve from the time they spend at the event. Is this just a fun team building activity, or is it more learning focused? If learning focused, what precisely is expected - developed leadership skills, improved communications within and across teams? Or whatever else it is that the management team is looking for. Knowing the desired outcome, or outcomes, means you can easily narrow down the selection of options which are most suitable to achieving these goals.
Once you know what they want to achieve from the session you then need to know the logistics of the event. So things like how long they will have available, when they want to run it, where about they want to run it and what kind of budget they have available.
When you combine all of these elements mentioned within this team building guide, it makes life much easier to identify the right team building activity for the staff away day you are organising.

So obviously I have never been to an NFL game but I plan on buying my step-dad tickets to the Broncos vs Raiders game in Denver. Of course he's a raider's fan & I'm sure we'll be sporting the apparel. But the only good seats left are the ones behind the home bench...Should I buy them? I really want this to be a good birthday present!
